Hard Choices

These are difficult times for the Valley of Bellingham.  Costs go up as income goes down mainly dues to loss of members dues to Brothers going to that Lodge not made with hands, in the Heavens.

Our loses of Brothers far exceeds the number of new Brothers that are electing to come into the Valley of Bellingham.

One of the difficulties is deciding what services to cut out to our members or how to increase funding to pay the costs.  Eliminating services to members lessens the reasons to join or stay a member of the Lodge.  However, with less active members there are less people to provide those services.

In October we manned two rest stops at Smokey Point for three days each to try to make up our deficit and not have to cancel more services.  A huge thank you to the Brothers that took their precious time to take a shift at the rest stop.

Someone Should

One trap that many of us who are Masons fall into is the “someone should” syndrome.  We are all good at seeing what should be done but many of us think there is someone else who should do it.  The fact is that most of the time there isn’t that someone.

I’m the only salaried Mason north of Everett.  I’m paid for 25 hours a month and I work about 40 hours a week for the Valley of Bellingham.  Of those 168 hours a month that I work on Scottish Rite Business I donate about 143 hours.  That is a huge personal commitment to the Valley that I have made.

The problem is that I can’t get what needs to be done, completed in those 143 hours a month I donate to the Valley.

The Valley needs your help.  We need programs, people who want to take parts in degrees, committee members, and more.  Come to Lodge and offer your support.
