Editorial Comment

Here I am again, the interim Editor of the Valley News.  Tired of hearing that?  Then I’ll bet both of us wish someone would step forward and volunteer to become Editor of the Valley News.

I guess I should count my blessings, last month I was Interim Secretary and Editor.  I thank God daily for someone like Paul Ingram, 33° for stepping up to the plate and taking on the job of General Secretary of the Valley of Bellingham.  Paul is doing a great job of walking up the gang-plank and getting aboard.  He is doing this in the middle of the flood of incoming dues for 2007.

The first of the year is always a difficult time for the Valley, the annual assessments of the Supreme Council are due in December and the insurance also is due in December.  Further we have the Orient assessment that must be paid early in the year for each member.  This year the dues billing was late and we didn’t control expenses well last year, when income didn’t match expenses, making cash flow now even more difficult.  You can help the Valley by getting your dues in and if you can afford an extra donation to the General Fund it would be of great help.

The hardest part of our new Valley budget for me is the loss of our monthly newsletter, I enjoyed receiving up to date news of the Valley and I’m sure others did, too.  The newsletter is the only way some Brothers hear anything from the Valley.

The newsletter was costing the Valley about $500.00 a month last year before we cancelled its production due to cash flow.  I send a questionnaire out with our November newsletter and most of the returns indicated that our members don’t want to pay any more dues or a fee for the newsletter, most voted for one free annual newsletter.
