Our Building
By Steve Cronkhite

The photo above is from a
postcard showing the building circa 1905, when it was first built. Notice the main floor; it is all glass in
front. With the double doors, that are still there, on the right leading to
the stairway to the second floor.
There was a drug store on the left and a print shop on the right on
the main floor.
In 1996 we started
remodeling the main floor. It
included the addition of an entry hall with two bathrooms, one
accessible. The Dining room was the
first room remodeled followed by the kitchen, Board Room, and the Lodge room.
The remodel is completed
now with the exception of the two handrails down the steps in the east
which have been ordered and should be installed soon. If you haven’t seen all the work that has
been done visit Lodge and see what’s new.

Changes in the Valley
By Steve Cronkhite
We sent a survey out
about the Valley News in our December newsletter. Of those we got back only four voted for
more than one newsletter a year if it was contingent on paying subscription
fees to receive the newsletter. The
results were a bold message to the leaders of the Valley of the member’s
feelings about the newsletter, if we are going to have newsletters, their
cost must come out of dues income.
Further, members are willing to have only one newsletter a year.
We spent the last two
years spending Brothers funds to produce a newsletter each month. Based on our returns from the
questionnaire and cash flow we are forced to revisit the issue of a
newsletter. Since our cash flow
crisis in October we have only published the newsletter each month on the
website without spending dues funds.
If you have strong feelings about the newsletter send them to the
General Secretary, Paul Ingram ( ing@clearwire.net
).
Another change in the
Valley is the splitting of the old Board into the Temple Board
who takes care of the building and the Executive Board that deals only with
issues of the Membership and the Lodges.
It has certainly made the Temple
Board move faster and
focus on building issues. I presume
that the Executive has found their mission similarly focused and been able
to address some of the critical issues the Executive Board needs to work on
for the health of the Valley and its members.
