NOTES FROM YOUR SECRETARY

Best wishes to all for the month of February. I hope every one survived the wild weather of the last two months with minimal damage.

I am not much of a writer, but will try to get a few thoughts down for your consideration.  As I am new, both to this Valley as well as this area, I will try to learn the ropes as fast as possible so as not to step on too many toes. It is my intention to make an on-going effort to convince the Brothers of this Valley to come back to their Bodies and check out the changes. I intend to try to instill a bit of fun in our gatherings, and the first thing along that line is to try to persuade everyone to bring your Lady to our dinner meetings! We need them to lighten us up a bit. The first opportunity for you to do this, will be our February 7th dinner, I have asked our caterer to fix something special for Valentines Day as our way of saying thank you to our Ladies for their support over the years. Bring your Sweethart out to a nice dinner and she will be the valleys guest.

I want to encourage each and every Brother to think and suggest entertaining things for the group to do, as well as any interesting speakers we might get for our dinners. I have several ideas, but I am not doing this alone. You all know the area and our membership better than I, so I am counting on every one of you.

In closing, please remember those obligations we all took as we progressed through the degrees of Masonry. We are all Brothers, and while we may not always agree on an issue, we must remember to treat each other with respect and good will.

Come out and lets have FUN for a change.

Paul

Greetings from South Dakota

Well we are finally getting used to the life style here in South Dakota. We have found that in order to be a part of the community it is necessary to slow down, learn that at noon you have dinner and in the evening you have supper, get along without traffic and stop lights, drive on gravel roads, drive over 50 miles to do any major shopping, going out to "supper" is at a "supper club" and I understand that winter will be here sooner or later.

I joined Concord Lodge #13 in Watertown South Dakota and the Northeast Shrine Club. It is only about a 55 mile drive to the meetings and that hasn't been to bad so far this year. It looks as thought that is going to change in the next few days.

The weather has been very nice so far. It is cold at times (10 to 20 degrees) but this weekend it is suppose to get really cold and snow.  Probably -10 degrees or there about at night and around 0 -7 degrees daytime. The closest Scottish Rite is in Aberdeen South Dakota, about 100 miles or so away but I have been told the valley in Sioux Falls is a better valley to get involved with. About 130 mile drive, one way. I don't thing I will be attending there on a regular basis especially in the winter.

I will be spending the week of January 15th to 19th in Austin Texas attending a school to learn the latest techniques of golf club manufacturing. I am starting a business repairing and building custom golf clubs. The sport of choice here in the summer is golf and there isn't anyplace to even buy a golf club including the golf course.
