Greetings from South Dakota

continued from page 3

The photos are of my home on the lake that is frozen over and of people ice fishing in my front yard. Now I can think of a lot of things I would rather do than spend a cold day on ICE hoping a fish swims by and is attracted to a baited hook in a lake that is a mile wide and 35 miles long. How often do you suppose a fish would actually swim by my baited hook? I think I would rather sit in front of my fireplace doing a puzzle and watching the fishermen wait for a fish to swim by. It will be much more comfortable.

Well that is about it from South Dakota except that we really do miss the Northwest and all our friends there. I really miss the Brethren of the Valley of Bellingham and look forward to a visit there sometime in the future. God bless you all.

Fraternally

Don Higgerson

Past Secretary

Changes in the Valley – Continued from page 1

In March we will elect new officers and this will also mean a change in leadership in the Valley as Gene Gilbert has stated he is not available to serve next year as his duties in the Divan of Nile Shrine will preclude his serving in the Valley for about three years.

Are you available to serve or do you know someone who would be willing to serve?  Your Valley needs your help.  Let the nominating committee (Ron Fine ronefine2@aol.com ) know if you can serve.

Roof Damage

By Steve Cronkhite

In January we had part of our roof blow off of our building and the downspouts freeze up and split.  We are in the process of working with the insurance company and the roofing company to have about one third of the roof and the downspouts replaced.

This is a wake up call to the board to fund reserves for roof replacement and building repairs.  During the remodeling cash flow was used to fund the remodel instead of going in debt.  Now that the remodeling is nearly complete we need to fund the reserve accounts out of cash flow.

As a side note, we have never had any cash reserves for the building since I became the Building Manager in 1996.  Luckily, with the areas of the building that we have leased out we now have the ability to start funding those reserves.
