From the Desk
of the Editor.
Well, the difficulty of
revising our Bylaws and nominating a willing slate of new officers for 2007
is now behind us. Those new officers
have a big challenge. Over the last
10 years there has been a fairly constant loss of active members each
year. All fraternal organizations
are going through reductions in size because new members have not kept up
with the death rate of the older members.
Those officers will have
to as the question, “What is wrong with the Valley of Bellingham?” One obvious thing that is wrong with the Valley of Bellingham is that less than 6% of
our members attend meetings.
It is difficult for an
organization to exist when only 6% of its members are active and come to
meetings. If the Valley is going to
be successful it needs active members to take part in the programs of the
Valley.
So, the question, “What
is wrong with the Valley
of Bellingham?” is an important question that holds the
key to the future of the Valley.
You can’t fix what is
wrong if you don’t face the fact that you and your organization are not
perfect. It will take a lot of soul
searching, brainstorming, trying new programs, and new thought to take the
Valley forward.
I urge you to get
involved in making the Valley
of Bellingham
something that is fun and an organization all of us can take pride in.
