The Venerable Master

(continued from page 1)

Venerable Master.  Now I don’t want to be Venerable Master.  After 8 years in the Secretary’s position, that is the focal point of the Valley, it should be my turn to sit on the side lines and enjoy just being a member.

Life is never that simple and some times God has other plans for you than what you would plan.  Several Brothers whispered in my ear that I should take my turn in the east and that the Valley needed me.

I accepted the nomination and was elected and installed as Venerable Master.  It was truly a pleasure to have increased attendance at my first stated meeting as Venerable Master.  Your support, filling a seat in the Lodge Room is the best gift you could give me.

I need your help to make this a good year for the Valley of Bellingham.  I need your suggestions for programs as I plan to have a program at every stated meeting.

There is no doubt that I will not be the greatest Venerable Master the Valley has ever had, my health and my fight with cancer limit my abilities.  My health already got in the way of me attending my second stated meeting as Venerable Master.  Ron Fine stepped into the east for me, Thank you Ron.

My last CT Scan  results delivered me a blow on May 15th, I was expecting things to be worse in my lungs and they are actually a bit better but a new anomaly showed up on my remaining kidney.  I have had an ultra-sound performed since then with no results as the possible tumor was too small and in the wrong location to see.

My local doctor is consulting with my doctors at the University of Washington to see what the next course of action is.  Waiting for information concerning your impending death is always stressful.  I celebrated my 5th year living with Phase IV terminal cancer April 15.  Only 4 out of 100 with this type of cancer live this long.  You’d think hearing bad news would get easier when you’ve had a lot of practice, it doesn’t.

Hopefully, the Lord will give me a few healthy and peaceful months to complete the job of Venerable Master.    I would like this to be a fun year were we seek out the answers to what makes a good man better.

If you’d like to help make 2007 a good year for the Valley attend meetings and if you can help with a program or have ideas about programs let me know.  My home phone is 360-733-6491.
